Smugglers Equestrian Centre is a brand new equestrian establishment that provides services for every equestrian need.
It all began at Gelligoediog Farm where Gelligoediog Riding Stables was developed, owned and run by Melissa Burles.
Melissa established the business in 2013 where she initially started with 3 horses used for tuition, Tom, Rosie & Jess. The riding school opened one evening a week and on a Saturday. The business was a great success with repeat business and recommendations about the delightful riding centre.
Within a very short time it became necessary to recruit yard staff and increase the number of riding horses and teaching days.
Rapidly outgrowing the current yard, talks were underway to move and create more space and an undercover arena. Around this time a perfect opportunity for growth became available and that was to purchase an existing established Livery yard.
Melissa jumped at the opportunity and hasn’t looked back since.
Smugglers Run was taken over on May 1st, 2017, civil engineers and a ground workforce team moved in at the same time and worked tirelessly for 24 months to produce the fantastic yard we now have.
Melissa rebranded and was known as Smugglers Livery & Equestrian Centre and the riding school was moved to the new location in the March of 2018.
Gelligoediog Riding Stables then became Smugglers Riding School. We are currently running at approximately 30 tuition horses and are open 6 days a week.
Smugglers Riding School is Licensed under Caerphilly County Borough Council, Insured with Caleb Roberts, underwritten by Shearwater and is a BHS Approved Riding, Livery and Facility Centre with a Commended rating. We are a British Equestrian Trade Association member and Pony Club Centre. We aim to become a Ride Safe training and examinations centre and BHS training and examinations centre.
The livery yard was significantly improved and now has high standard facilities and services including an on site tack shop and Café.
Smugglers Equestrian Centre also hosts regular Competitions and Clinics to suit every discipline.
